USA’s disturbing trend towards a police state
Here are a few handy links:
HR 1955 : Or should I say 1984? Thought crimes are here folks! The government now has the right to domestic surveillance, with a very nice, broad definition allowing the government plenty of scope.
College Opportunity and Affordability Act of 2007 : Basically, universities are going to be threatened with loss of funding if they don’t agree to police P2P on behalf of RIAA, and buy Napster/Rhapsody subscriptions for every student too. Doesn’t this seem stupid to anyone? It’d be like going to Centrelink and saying “clean up the litter in the adjacent town or we’ll cut your funding!”.
Protect America Act of 2007 – allowing for untargeted collection of international communications without meaningful oversight by Congress or courts.
Give the government an inch, and it will take a mile.
